The COORDINATORS

The COORDINATORS: The saying, "…a finger can not open a peanut,” is practically true. The message of this dictum is very simple cooperation! So too with our apostolate, we cooperate and coordinate. To facilitate harmoniously and effectively the tasks of each member, the SVD-PHS has chosen four coordinators for: Communication, Mission Animation, Justice and Peace and Bible Apostolate. The team is expected to work in collaboration with the provincial superior in implementing the realignment program of the province.

  COMMUNICATIONS

In Cebu City, we have a Social Communications Center and two radio stations (DYRF-AM and DYDW-FM). In Tacloban City, we have another radio station (DYDW-AM). In Ormoc City, a newly launched radio station is now on air  (DYAJ-FM). A confrere coordinates the entire social communications apostolate of the province.

  MISSION ANIMATION

The SVD-PHS organizes spiritual, physical and material assistance to 48 Filipino SVD missionaries working around the globe. In this connection, a confrere animates groups and encourages partners to raise funds and find benefactors and supporters for the mission.

  JUSTICE AND PEACE (JPIC)

A confrere is assigned full-time as provincial coordinator of JPIC concerns. He has to establish contacts and inform dialogue partners in SVD communities and districts regarding social development projects and the promotion of justice and peace.

  BIBLE

A Divine Word Missionary is supposed to live and communicate the living Word. A confrere is assigned to share the life-giving words of the bible through seminars, radio programs and publications.

  EDUCATION

The Province runs three universities – University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu City, Holy Name University (HNU) in Tagbilaran City, Bohol and Divine Word University (DWU - now Lecio del Verbo Divino) in Tacloban City, Leyte. Thirty three confreres are working in these  educational institutions.

  FORMATION

Formation is the focus of two centers in the Province.  In Cebu the St. Freinademetz Formation House that takes care for the formation of Brother candidates in temporary vows, while in Davao City the Divine Word Formation Center educates clerical seminarians.

  PASTORAL MINISTRIES

The Province has three mission districts in the region of Mindanao. In the Surigao District, we serve five parishes on the island of Dinagat.  In the Agusan district, we serve seven parishes.  In the Ipil District, we recently accepted  two parishes. In addition we are administering one parish in Cebu, City.  In these parishes thirty confreres work under rather difficult conditions.

  ADOPTED COMMUNITIES

Drugs, sex trade and unemployment are just some of the causes of poverty. The PHS gives health care and moral assistance to the victims of man-made evil. These marginalized families and individuals are adopted by the congregation as partners and collaborators of the mission. Adopted communities include slum areas, communities of fishermen and sexually abused children. Only gifted confreres can offer their time and effort to this kind of apostolate and the PHS is blessed with some members!

  CULTURAL COMMUNITIES

A confrere is assigned full time to the Cultural Communities in the District of Agusan in the diocese of Butuan.  He concentrates on training and educating the young among the tribal Filipinos. After a painstaking research and initial exposure, he concludes that this is the best and the most realistic help we can offer.

  ADMINISTRATION

Two confreres are involved with our support enterprises. Catholic Trade Inc. is a business dealing mainly with religious articles and Steylers Inc. is a canteen concessionaire and catering service. The main office is in University of San Carlos North Campus with branches in Talamban Campus, South Campus, Main Campus and Holy Name University Dampas Campus.

  HOSPITAL CHAPLAINCY

Caring for the sick was one of Jesus' priorities. In solidarity with our sick brothers and sisters, a confrere is assigned as chaplain to answer the spiritual and psychological needs of the patients at the Saint Arnold Janssen Mission Hospital in Tacloban City, Leyte.

  RETREAT HOUSE
